Aaron Dobson ‘mouthed off’ to Josh McDaniels, thus named inactive

New England Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson is the best deep threat on the team, but the talented second-year pro out of Marshall has been inactive in each of the team’s past two games. Bill Belichick was unwilling to divulge why Dobson was inactive in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders, and he missed the Monday Night Football debacle against another AFC West squad in the Kansas City Chiefs.

  • Belichick, of course, is an “on to Cincinnati” broken record, but we were able to receive some information as to why Dobson was inactive against the Chiefs and Raiders. The Boston Globe’s Shalise Manza Young reports that Dobson “mouthed off” to Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, which led to him being a healthy scratch for both games.

Whatever Dobson said to his OC, I’m sure several Patriots fans would like to have even stronger words for the play-caller, as the offense has been a complete wreck since they dominated the Minnesota Vikings. It’s led to an awful lot of questions pertaining to one of the league’s worst offensive lines, and oft-criticized group of receivers, and a potentially over-the-hill Tom Brady.

I’m not willing to jump to grandiose conclusions or proclaim doom for the Patriots, but I am willing to chastise the Pats for being so darn stubborn with criticism of the coaching staff. The Patriots absolutely have to find a way to get him into the lineup, because he has their best downfield playmaking ability due to his long speed and catch radius. Brady’s deep ball hasn’t been working (bad offensive line play has prevented him from receiving enough time to take legit shots deep), but Dobson can clear out space for others.
