Calvin Johnson says he feels better

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson was able to play in last week’s win over the New York Jets, but the ankle injury he came into the game with was more severe than initially indicated. He was always expected to play through the pain, but Johnson was treated as a game-time decision despite looking pretty good in his route-running. Throughout the game, the Lions utilized Johnson as a mere decoy in order to manage his injury, though it’s not like they needed his help in defeating the Jets. No. 2 wide receiver Golden Tate is an excellent talent, and he showed off his ability to take games over in a great performance.

  • Johnson stated after the Jets game that he expects to get even healthier this week in the lead-up to this week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, so his ankle injury shouldn’t be of much concern.

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Michael Rothstein, Johnson stated that he “feels better” to start this week of practice than he did when starting the practice week during Week 4. It’s solid news for the Lions, though Johnson never suffered any setbacks and was always expected to get even healthier in order to be a full-go this week.

So far this season, Johnson has 21 receptions for 341 yards and two TDs despite barely being used in Week 4.
