Chip Kelly not concerned about Nick Foles’s shoulder

Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback Nick Foles was one of the stories of the season in 2013 after being an out-of-nowhere revelation, but he’s had a fairly inconsistent start to the regular season (still not as bad as one of his favorite targets’s, Riley Cooper, disappointing play early this year following a breakout 2013) so far. Foles bounced back after a terrible first half against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and that performance carried into efficient performances in victories over the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins, with his performance against the Redskins woeful pass defense being especially noteworthy (season-high 65.9% completion percentage, three TDs, no interceptions).

However, Foles played his worst game of the year in last week’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, as he completed less than 50% of his passes with two picks, no touchdowns, and a putrid 4.5 yards per attempt. It wasn’t all his fault, though, because the once-great Eagles offensive line has been decimated by injuries. Some worried that Foles may have also been affected by a shoulder injury, but Chip Kelly downplayed those concerns.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Zach Berman, Kelly said that Foles didn’t need an MRI, nor did he miss a snap in practice due to the shoulder injury. There are absolutely no concerns here, especially since the solid distributor has a light matchup against the St. Louis Rams this week. Well, the Rams secondary is light, but the Robert Quinn and Aaron Donald-led defensive line is anything but that.
