LeSean McCoy says he’s ‘fine’

Philadelphia Eagles star running back LeSean McCoy had the best season of anyone at the position last season, but he hasn’t been able to find that same success this season. While McCoy was undoubtedly responsible for most of his success last year (he’s insanely elusive), the Pittsburgh product also benefited plenty from rushing behind the league’s most dominant offensive line. But with Jason Kelce and Evan Mathis injured for lengthy spells and Lane Johnson only just back from his suspension (quality replacement Allen Barbre also suffered an early-season injury), McCoy and Nick Foles have been forced to operate behind a makeshift line that has been a bottom unit.

  • Some have speculated that McCoy’s severe lack of production so far this season is partially due to an injury, but Eagles head coach Chip Kelly and the running back himself have done everything possible to dispel this speculation. According to the Philadelphia Daily News’s Les Bowen, McCoy stated that he’s “fine”, adding that he is happy to have the uber-athletic Johnson back. “Shady” admitted that he isn’t producing but stated that he isn’t exactly sure why.

I think most of us firmly believe that the issue is major injuries on an offensive line that, when healthy, is the league’s best. Nobody can withstand the injuries the Eagles have suffered up front, but McCoy isn’t about to sell out the “next men up”. It’s going to take some time for the Eagles offensive line to get healthy, so we’ll have to wait for McCoy to be able to show off his supreme talent on the ground.
