DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys talks ‘very preliminary’
The Dallas Cowboys offered star running back DeMarco Murray a new four-year contract, as their goal is unsurprisingly to keep one of their best players around for the long haul. A four-year contract would keep Murray, who is 26, in Dallas for the best years of his career, as he would be 30 by the time the contract runs out, avoiding the risk of paying a washed-up, dispensable RB.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are, as always, willing to get contract extension done during the season, but he notes that the talks between Murray and the Cowboys are currently in “very preliminary” stages. That could accelerate by the time the season is over, because it’s clear that the Cowboys want him to lead their offense for the foreseeable future. He’s had at least one rushing touchdown, 100 rushing yards, and a reception in each game this season, as new offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is committed to giving one of his star players over 20 touches per game.
Murray reportedly turned down the aforementioned four-year contract, and he’s definitely going to go after as much money as possible under an extension. If he were to hit the open market this upcoming offeseason, then there’s no doubt that Murray would make bank compared to what most RBs (like Ben Tate and Knowshon Moreno last year) earn in free agency.
