Richard Sherman Lashes Out

“Pierre doesn’t matter in this league… I mean exactly what I said.”

Following the Seattle Seahawks win over the Washington Redskins, Richard Sherman was interviewed regarding the controversial play involving Pierre Garcon, in which Garcon tugged at Sherman’s dreads. Sherman, being the egotistical, insecure player that he is, took a low blow at the Redskins receiver.

Really, Mr. Sherman? Sherman’s biggest defense of himself often lies in the numbers that he puts up. In that case, he should check out Garcon’s 2013 totals. Garcon had a league-leading 113 receptions, as well as just over 1,300 yards and five touchdowns.

It is fair to say that Garcon was not a scoring machine, but he was most certainly a workhorse in an offense that needed a hero like him. When the chips were down, Garcon stepped up into a major role and came through for a struggling offense. Yet still, Sherman took it upon himself to be the all-knowing voice of reason and claim that the most recent NFL reception leader was irrelevant.

Sherman, although a great player and arguably the best at what he does, gets too wrapped up in his own image and unjustly trashes other players in the process. If Sherman truly believes he is the best, he needs to drop the act and simply continue to dominate on the football field.
