San Francisco 49ers Anthony Davis has sprained MCL

San Francisco 49ers star right tackle Anthony Davis was bitten by the injury bug again, as he left the Week 4 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles with a knee injury. Davis was listed questionable in the lead-up to that game with a nagging hamstring ailment that caused him to miss the team’s first three games, so he was injured on his 2014 regular season debut.

  • The Sacramento Bee’s Matt Barrows feeds us  some more bad news on the health front regarding the RT, as Davis stated that he sprained his MCL against the Eagles and isn’t sure if he’ll be healthy enough to play against the rival St. Louis Rams this week. MCL sprains have varying timetables depending on the severity of the sprain and the ability of the player to slog through it, but I would tentatively expect Davis to sit out. Not only is he unsure of his ability to play, but the 49ers are typically cautious when it comes to injuries to star players.

Expect Jonathan Martin to get dominated again if Davis can’t go, as Martin clearly looks overwhelmed when making starts for Davis, who already missed the Week 5 win over the Kansas City Chiefs with the MCL sprain. In the Chiefs game, Martin had no answer for Justin Houston and the other members of the opposition’s front seven.
