Alex Mack broke his ankle, out for season?

Cleveland Browns star center Alex Mack exited today’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a lower left leg injury, which was later determined to be an ankle injury. Mack was immediately carted off the field, and his leg was placed in an air cast. Everything about the injury made it look like a season-ending one, which would obviously be a big blow to the Browns, as Mack is arguably the NFL’s best center.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Mack broke his ankle today, and “the fear” is that he will end up missing the rest of the season. We probably won’t know his fate until we receive some more news tomorrow (the Browns will have to take him through further testing to make sure), but this could easily be a season-ending injury for him.

Ben Tate and Isaiah Crowell starred in today’s victory, and the Browns have enough talent on the line- look no further than rookie guard Joel Bitonio- to make do without Mack. Still, it’s obviously a rather huge blow to the Browns offense, and it will be interesting to see how this affects Brian Hoyer’s comfort in the pocket. Hoyer was solid today in 17 attempts, completing less than 50% of his passes but averaging a whopping 12.8 yards per attempt against one of the NFL’s worst secondaries.
