Darren Sproles Injury: Philadelphia Eagles RB will likely miss a game

Philadelphia Eagles star running back Darren Sproles went down with a left knee injury in last night’s game against the New York Giants, and he was sent in for an MRI with the expectation that the injury could end up resulting in a multi-week absence for the talented scat back. Thankfully, it looks like Sproles will get away with missing less time than that after his knee twisted around awkwardly.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, Sproles has been diagnosed with a slight tear in his MCL and is expected to miss two weeks. Since the Eagles are on a bye next week, Sproles is only expected to miss the team’s Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Eagles play the Houston Texans in Week 9, so that’s the targeted return date for now, but it is, of course, too early to make any concrete predictions.

For a second straight game, Sproles didn’t catch any passes (despite four targets), but he did run for 39 yards on seven carries for a touchdown, playing a key role in the offense again before going down with an injury. Sproles has been predictably impressive in Chip Kelly’s offense, averaging an astounding 6.6 yards per carry to go with 16 receptions for 198 yards. It’s excellent news that he’s only expected to be on the shelf for a couple of weeks, because awkwardly twisted knees can sometimes lead to something more severe.
