Jonathan Stewart practicing today

Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart has missed the past few weeks with a knee injury, but he did have a fighting chance at returning on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals before ultimately being listed inactive. Stewart was listed questionable on the Panthers official injury report and was a game-time decision, but his knee simply wasn’t healthy enough for him to get the green light in Week 6.

  • It looks like Stewart has a really good shot at playing this week against the Green Bay Packers soft run defense, as the Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan Jones reports that not only did J-Stew return to practice today, but he was in full pads. If he can practice throughout the week without any setbacks, then he’s pretty much a lock to suit up against Green Bay.

Stewart has 88 rushing yards this season on 29 carries for an average of just three yards per carry in his three appearances, but he did show some flashes of the old J-Stew in a strong preseason performance against the Kansas City Chiefs. Regardless of Stewart’s effectiveness, he’s certainly more talented than the other running backs the Panthers have been trotting out there, and his status is even more critical with DeAngelo Williams still needing some time to recover from an injury.
