Victor Cruz hopes to return for OTAs

New York Giants star wide receiver Victor Cruz tore his right patellar tendon in last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and it’s an incredibly serious knee injury that could have major long-term ramifications for Cruz’s effectiveness. At 27, the versatile wide receiver is in the prime of his career, but it’s possible that he might not be able to bounce back fully from this injury and could lose some of his trademark agility and explosiveness as a result. It’s a situation worth monitoring next year, but, for now, the important thing is hoping that he can have a speedy and full recovery.

According to the New York Daily News’s Ralph Vacchiano, Cruz state that he hopes he can return to the Giants by the time OTAs open up, as he stated that he currently has a 4-8 month timetable. This is a huge gap, as that means he could return as early as February or as late as June. Either way, Vacchiano reports that Cruz expects to be back on the team by the time training camp opens.

If I were the Giants, I wouldn’t want my big-money wideout to rush his recovery and try to return for OTAs, so it’s a lot wiser for him to wait it out. From this perspective, Cruz’s best bet is to wait until training camp to rejoin the team, and hopefully he can still retain most of his cutting ability following an incredibly serious knee injury.
