DeAngelo Williams, Fozzy Whittaker ruled out

The Carolina Panthers will get Jonathan Stewart back this week for their huge battle against the Green Bay Packers, but Stewart will be forced to carry the load in his first week back from a knee injury after not playing since Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Stewart is no stranger to the injury report, and the Panthers will have to hope that he can avoid it for a couple of more weeks with fellow running back DeAngelo Williams still on the shelf.

  • According to the Associated Press’s Steve Reed, the Panthers have officially ruled Williams and fellow RB Fozzy Whittaker out for the Packers game, making Williams an unsurprising downgrade. He was spotted in a cast earlier this month and is still expected to be a few weeks away from returning from what has been a nasty ankle injury. High-ankle sprains are never a light issue, but this one has really hurt D-Will, who first suffered the injury in Week 4.

Stewart, who has practiced fully this week, will get to face an easy run defense in the Packers, and their secondary isn’t at full strength either. The Panthers put up 37 on the Cincinnati Bengals last week, and Cam Newton is one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league right now. If they can get going early, then tomorrow’s Packers-Panthers game could end up being the most memorable contest of the week.
