Calvin Johnson Injury Update: Game-time decision, still not expected to play

Although Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell stated that it would take a “miracle” for star wide receiver Calvin Johnson to play today against the New Orleans Saints, he has made it possible for Megatron to suit up. Not only did he list him as questionable instead of listing him as doubtful (like he did last week) after another week of not practicing, but he is also making Johnson a game-time decision.

  • Johnson was spotted testing out his ankle, and the NFL Network’s Albert Breer reports that the Lions will determine his status following his ankle workout, which includes the customary ladder drills. Per Breer, the Lions decision will hinge on how much pain Johnson feels (he definitely feels some) and how much he can do on his ankle.

Lions official site beat writer Tim Twentyman tweets that he still doesn’t expect Johnson to play today despite the fact that he worked out pretty darn early. Johnson is indeed a game-time decision, but it doesn’t look like anyone has changed their opinion on whether or not he will play. That said, it’s possible that his chances have been upgraded from “miracle” to “unlikely”, so it’s at least a situation worth monitoring closely now.
