Paul Richardson, Kevin Norwood ‘psyching’ up Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks decision to trade Percy Harvin immediately made Paul Richardson a hot topic for savvy NFL fans, and some forward-thinking, risk-taking fantasy owners decided to take a flier on Richardson, particularly in deep leagues. He’s the next-man-up with Harvin out of the way, and Richardson is an explosive playmaker who can stretch the field and make defenders miss. With plenty of comparisons to Washington Redskins star wideout DeSean Jackson, Richardson could be a significantly better fit for the Seahawks offense, because he can go downfield vertically and doesn’t come with the baggage that prevented Harvin from developing a legit rapport with star QB Russell Wilson.

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks are unsurprisingly “really psyched” to see talented rookies Paul Richardson and Alabama product Kevin Norwood, who is a prototypical possession receiver, play in this afternoon’s rivalry game against the St. Louis Rams. The Rams are a great matchup for both Richardson and Norwood to make an impact in, as they have a soft secondary despite receiving surprisingly strong play from rookie CB E.J. Gaines, who looks very comfortable out there.

I could see Richardson breaking off a big play or two today, and he’s definitely the one worth watching the closest due to his upside and ability to replace Harvin as the offense’s primary playmaker. Norwood, however, is equally intriguing due to his understanding of the game, and he was probably undervalued in college due to being handcuffed by the criminally overrated A.J. McCarron.
