Percy Harvin could have been cut DeSean Jackson-style

There are some interesting parallels between Percy Harvin’s falling apart with the Seattle Seahawks and the Philadelphia Eagles decision to outright release star wide receiver DeSean Jackson, except somebody actually traded for Harvin. Jackson is a better receiver and has less injury concerns than Harvin, but it was interesting to see that nobody was willing to after him, possibly because his contract could be seen as being less favorable than Harvin’s. The Washington Redskins ended up signing him, and he’s been excellent ever since.

More from Seattle Seahawks

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the Seahawks were prepared to release Percy Harvin in D-Jax fashion if they were unable to find any takers for Harvin, so this explains the reasoning behind accepting a mid-round pick (in case anyone even needed some clarity on that). It’s clear that the Seahawks waned to get rid of Harvin at all costs, and he’s probably an even bigger headcase than D-Jax. Not only has he fought with teammates, but he didn’t even want to enter last week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys and has an extensive injury history. Moreover, Harvin has caused trouble at every stop he’s been at, including college, so the Jets are hoping that change of scenery and the presence of his mentor Michael Vick will prevent Harvin from becoming an issue.

The Seahawks have moved on, and they are hoping that talented rookies Paul Richardson and Kevin Norwood can make immediate impacts. Their time starts today against the St. Louis Rams, and Richardson’s playmaking ability will be especially interesting to watch.
