Percy Harvin trade rejected by Broncos, Colts, Browns, Bucs

The Seattle Seahawks dropped a bombshell on all of us when they shipped Percy Harvin to the New York Jets on Friday for a conditional sixth-round pick that can become a fourth-rounder, and the modest price both financially and draft pick-wise seems to make this a very worthy gamble for the Jets, who could get a perfect fit for their offense out of this deal. Meanwhile, the Seahawks didn’t seem to view Harvin as a true fit in their offense anymore, as he’s been a disappointment this season after starting the season healthy. Harvin also caused plenty of trouble in the locker room, fighting with the likes of Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate.

Harvin was quietly shopped around, and it’s incredible that we never heard this before. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports, via NFL.com’s Conor Orr, that the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Indianapolis Colts were all teams John Schneider talked to. All four of these teams balked at his price, and there were other teams involved that haven’t been named. Below are some brief reasons why each of these teams wouldn’t want two acquire Percy Harvin.

Denver Broncos- It’s interesting that Schneider would call the team the Seahawks beat in the Super Bowl, but the Broncos would never want to swing this deal. They already have more than enough weapons on offense, and adding Harvin could cause more harm than good by tipping the balance.

Indianapolis Colts- They need help on defense, not at wide receiver.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- While they could definitely use a player like Harvin, draft picks are more important, and I don’t think Lovie Smith and Jason Licht would want to add a headcase in their first years on the job, especially since things aren’t going as planned.

Cleveland Browns- Rapoport reports that the Seahawks wanted Jordan Cameron involved in the deal, and that’s obviously something the Browns don’t want to do. Harvin would actually make sense for the Browns, but I don’t think they wanted to deal with his issues.
