Russell Wilson did not give up on Percy Harvin

The Seattle Seahawks grew tired of diva wide receiver Percy Harvin, who reportedly did not choose to go back into multiple games, including last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Harvin also fought with teammates on multiple occasions, and he wasn’t even a significant factor this season, failing to work with star quarterback Russell Wilson to build a rapport. A mere bit player in the offense upon his return to full health this year, Harvin averaged a meager six yards per reception with just 22 catches, and he also failed to run legitimate routes downfield.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the notion Russell Wilson gave up on Harvin is false, as Mort states that Wilson actually wanted to help Harvin by working through the receiver’s trust issues and obvious anger issues. It doesn’t sound like Harvin reciprocated, and the New York Jets can only hope that he listens to backup quarterback Michael Vick, whom he considers to be a mentor.

As the reports flow in, the Seahawks decision to get rid of Harvin makes even more and more sense, as this smells like a DeSean Jackson situation with a greater weight of reported evidence supporting the ‘Hawks. And, unlike the Jackson business, the Seahawks didn’t have to resort to cutting Harvin, because they found a willing trade partner in former exec John Idzik.
