Top 5 QB Performances of Week 7

facebooktwitterreddit

Another week went by in the NFL, and some more fantastic performances were put together by the various talented quarterbacks in the league. Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning headlines the list after breaking the all-time touchdown record, but there is an argument to be made that one of the other quarterbacks on this list of five had an even better day through the air.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning

Manning and Demaryius Thomas are simply too good for defenses, and the linked play is the 40-yard touchdown pass following Demaryius’s eight-yard TD, which was Manning’s record-breaking TD toss. The San Francisco 49ers knew they could be in for a world of pain due to injuries on the defensive side of the ball, but nobody could have anticipated the Broncos putting up 42 points. Peyton dropped 318 passing yards with just four incompletions on 26 attempts, averaging a whopping 12.2 yards per attempt with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s playing as well as any quarterback in the league right now, and he was pretty much perfect on SNF.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers

You know how I said Peyton Manning is playing as well as any quarterback in this league? Well, Aaron Rodgers is probably playing better than anyone right now, and he made it looks easy against the Carolina Panthers defense on Sunday. Admittedly, it was probably quite easy to tear apart one of the league’s most porous pass defenses, as the Panthers secondary allowed the A.J. Green-less Cincinnati Bengals, who were shutout on Sunday by Vontae Davis and the Indianapolis Colts, to score 37 on them in the previous week. That said, Rodgers’s 19-22 line is impressive against any defense, as he threw 255 yards and  averaged 11.6 yards per attempt.

He had so much success that the Packers pulled him later on in the game, and they actually jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Rodgers and the Packers are playing so well on offense that they don’t have to try for the rest of the game, as they could have easily scored more than 38 points if they didn’t slam the brakes.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill

The Miami Dolphins 27-14 victory over the Chicago Bears has helped cause reports of locker room strife within the Bears organization, while the Dolphins are past that inane “Will he or won’t he be benched?” speculation pertaining to Ryan Tannehill, who should be considered the team’s franchise quarterback. Though it came against the Bears struggling pass defense, Tannehill was brilliant, showing off his talent with two passing touchdowns and a really nice run for 30 yards. He averaged 8.7 yards per attempt and was brutally efficient, and the Dolphins seem to be on the right track now at an even 3-3.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo

One of the game’s best quarterbacks, Tony Romo’s lone blemish in a 31-21 win over the rival New York Giants was a pick to top corner Prince Amukamara, who was kept busy with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at less than 100%. Romo’s connection with elite receiver Dez Bryant didn’t get off to the best start during the first half, but they really started to roll in the second half, with Bryant finishing with a monstrous nine receptions for 151 yards on 13 targets. For the game, Romo had three TDs with just six incomplete passes on a 17-23 line, averaging an excellent 12.1 yards per attempt for 279 passing yards. Jason Pierre-Paul and Amukamara did everything they could as the stars on the Giants defense, but they weren’t going to slow Romo down.

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson

The Seattle Seahawks are shockingly at .500, but you have to feel bad for them, as their 28-26 loss to the rival St. Louis Rams on Sunday was born out of bad luck. I mean, how could they anticipate the Rams converting on two fluky special teams plays? Nevertheless, the Seahawks didn’t play their best game on defense, but they were still almost carried to victory by Russell Wilson and would have won if the Rams weren’t able to convert those plays.

Although the Seahawks are a disappointment at 3-3, Wilson has been anything but disappointing, as he had another fantastic performance through the air and on the ground. Hooking up with Doug Baldwin and TE Cooper Helfet with Percy Harvin gone, Wilson threw for 313 yards, two touchdowns, no picks, and an average of 8.7 yards per attempt in an other excellent, efficient display. He continues to impress on the ground, as he put up a game-high 106 rushing yards on just seven carries with a 52-yard run and a 19-yard TD to his credit.
