RG3 expected to return after bye?
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is getting closer to returning after dislocating his ankle in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and there was once some hope that he could return in time to face the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football this week. RG3 practiced yesterday, but he is expected to be held out of this week’s big rivalry matchup. While having RG3 out there would be a big boost, the Redskins are going to roll with Colt McCoy after he displaced the interception-prone Kirk Cousins in a narrow victory over the Tennessee Titans.

According to the Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told SiriusXM’s Bruce Murray and Rich Gannon that the expectation right now is to hold RG3 out through the bye week. The Redskins will play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9, will be on a bye, and then will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11.
If McCoy plays poorly against the Cowboys on MNF, then I wonder if the Redskins could feel more pressure to play RG3 in Week 9 against Minnesota. The Redskins are wisely being cautious with their franchise quarterback, as it’s clear that Cousins isn’t going to be usurping him; he just isn’t a consistent enough QB to reach that “franchise” precipice.
