Owen Daniels had knee procedure, out for at least one game

Baltimore Ravens veteran tight end Owen Daniels missed practice to start the week with a knee injury, though it didn’t seem like he suffered any sort of injury in the team’s Week 7 win over the Atlanta Falcons, especially since he had a solid game with six receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown. The level of concern regarding Daniels’s status was raised when he missed practice on Thursday, because it started to seem like his absence on Wednesday wasn’t due to a day of rest for a player who has an injury history. The Ravens downplayed the severity of the injury and made it seem like he would be able to play in this week’s rivalry game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

It looks like that was a lie, as Daniels missed practice today and appears to have no chance of playing. In fact, it looks like he could be out for longer, as ESPN NFL Nation’s Jamison Hensley reports that the former Houston Texans TE had a “clean-up procedure” on his knee and will miss at least one game as a result. Solid rookie TE Crockett Gillmore is expected to get the start for Daniels, though I wonder if the versatile and talented Kyle Juszczyk will be the biggest beneficiary of Daniels’s absence.

Hopefully Daniels doesn’t miss too much time, since the Ravens have use for his reliable pair of mitts in the passing game. Daniels has 27 receptions for 275 yards and three touchdowns, though his value is restricted to his ho-hum consistency and red zone ability; he isn’t a true threat at this stage of his career.
