Shane Vereen listed questionable

The New England Patriots are coming off of a long week and a rivalry win over the New York Jets, which helped them run their record to three-straight victories ever since that infamous Monday Night Football loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Tom Brady has been firing on all cylinders, as the blocking in front of him has moved up from being “terrible” to “subpar”, while his pass-catchers have done a significantly better job, especially since Rob Gronkowski finally looks healthy. Unfortunately, Brady is at risk of not having a legitimate running game, as the team’s best running back with Stevan Ridley out for the season has a shot at missing this week’s game against the Chicago Bears.

  • According to the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin, the Patriots have officially listed Shane Vereen as questionable after he missed practice today with an illness, and he could come down to a game-time decision as he heals up this weekend. The Patriots aren’t facing a tough run defense by any means, but the Bears might not be threatened by the likes of James White, Brandon Bolden, and Jonas Gray.

Vereen seems like a toss-up right now, but I would tentatively expect him to recover from this illness. It’s always difficult to play after missing practice on Friday, but the fact that this isn’t an injury gives Vereen a massive boost. If he can’t play, then it could be the Tom Brady show again, and he has an even more favorable matchup if the Patriots line can hold up. Fantasy owners should monitor his status closely on Sunday, and he is definitely worth playing if healthy, especially given his elite pass-catching ability at the running back position.
