A.J. Green looking to return in Week 9

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green has missed the past two weeks with a toe injury that he aggravated at practice before Week 6, and he isn’t expected to play today against the rival Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals held out hope for Green to suit up for today’s rivalry game, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case. Green’s toe injury will likely bother him for the rest of the year, so the Bengals need to be very careful with their star player.

  • Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that Green won’t be out there today against the Ravens, and a source told PFT that the star wideout plans to play in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which would be a light matchup for his return. There still remains the possibility that Green misses a fourth week and makes his return in Week 10 against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football. Not only is that a bigger matchup, but Green would get a few days of extra rest and wouldn’t have to play in two games in five days upon his return.

Once Green comes back, it will be interesting to see how much the toe injury limits him, because he reportedly has some lingering damage and won’t be healthy this season. It’s clear that the Bengals need him back, though Marvin Lewis’s optimistic talk about injuries must be taken with a grain of salt.
