Vincent Jackson will play today

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are, as expected, starting Mike Glennon today against the Minnesota Vikings, as Josh McCown has been usurped by the younger and stronger Glennon, who has definitely outperformed the veteran in his absence (McCown suffered a thumb injury in that early-season TNF debacle against the Atlanta Falcons).Glennon will have his top wide receiver out there today, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Vincent Jackson will be active despite being questionable on the injury report.

  • Jackson was always expected to play, as the questionable listing is vague and doesn’t tell you that he practiced on a limited basis on both Thursday and Friday. The standout veteran is drawing interest from teams as a potential trade piece, but those teams looking for a new star receiver would have to part ways with a valuable pick in order to land a big wideout who can stretch the field vertically.

At 31, Jackson is usually listed on the injury report with some sort of injury, and sometimes it’s just to give him a rest day at practice that week. He’s clearly an established player who doesn’t need to put in a full slate of practices each week, as the most important thing for him is rest before gameday. So far this season, V-Jax has 25 receptions for 344 yards and a touchdown, and he’s definitely better off playing with Glennon as his QB.
