Rashad Jennings not expected to play against Colts?

New York Giants feature back Rashad Jennings has looked like free agent steal here in his first season with the team, as he has looked exactly like the workhorse the team wanted him to be. Unfortunately, a knee injury that he suffered in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons has hurt his ability to get back to his workman-like ways, as he sprained his MCL and has been out since.

More from New York Giants

The expectation was for the Giants to rest Jennings through the bye week and have him out there on Monday Night Football against the Indianapolis Colts, thus giving the former Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders RB ample time to rest. It doesn’t look like that’s the way things will shake out, as Jennings missed practice today and seems less likely to play against the Colts than once though.

ESPN NFL Nation’s Dan Graziano tweeted that he spoke with Jennings and stated that he would be “surprised” to see the RB  play, and this is a concerning sign. It’s still too early to make any exact calls on Jennings’s Week 9 status, but it seems like he should be tentatively expected to be held out for another week.

Jennings has run for 396 yards and two touchdowns in five appearances this season, with 11 receptions for 109 yards to boot.
