In an overtime effort, the Washington Redskins managed to defeat the Dallas Cowboys 20-17 on Monday night. It wasn’t the prettiest victory but it was a victory nonetheless. Colt McCoy will be given most of the credit for the win, but Alfred Morris also deserves praise. Morris didn’t exactly go off, but he played very well. The workhorse running back has gotten off to a slow start this season, so his strong effort against Dallas is a good sign.
It actually shouldn’t be a surprise that Morris had a strong outing against the Cowboys, though. In 5 contests against Dallas, Morris has never had less than 70 yards and he has scored at least 1 touchdown in each game. It’s an impressive statistic, but it still doesn’t truly display the dominance that Morris has asserted over the Dallas defense.
Here’s a look at his career numbers against the Dallas Cowboys.

With 555 rushing yards in 5 career games against the Dallas Cowboys, Alfred Morris is averaging 111 rushing yards per game. That’s a ridiculous number, especially considering the fact that he averages 81 rushing yards per game against all of the other teams he has faced. He has also reached the end zone 7 times against the Cowboys, which is solid.
The third year running back has struggled so far this season but his recent play on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys was a positive sign. Maybe he’s beginning to see the holes easier. Maybe the blocking is getting better. Maybe he’s about to hit his stride. Or maybe Alfred Morris is just a Cowboy killer. I think his 111 rushing yards per game would agree with the latter.
