Reggie Wayne uncertain this week
Indianapolis Colts veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne didn’t seem to suffer a significant injury in the team’s Week 7 shutout victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but he needed an MRI done after the game and was unable to play in last week’s 51-34 drubbing at the hand of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hakeem Nicks proved ineffective as a starter and has been a total disappointment in a Colts uni, but Donte Moncrief has been anything but a disappointment. The rookie out of Ole Miss was the team’s best pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and his physical tools and upside were never put into question. However, there were worries that he was too raw to make a big impact as a rookie, but it’s clear that he doesn’t need that much seasoning. Sure, it was against the Steelers secondary, but Moncrief was pretty darn good.

It will be interesting to see how the Colts use Moncrief and Wayne once the future Hall of Fame wide receiver returns from his injury, but that might not happen this week. According to the Indianapolis Star’s Mike Chappell, Colts head coach Chuck Pagano stated that he isn’t sure if Wayne will be able to play in this week’s Monday Night Football tilt against the New York Giants. Pagano stated that it’s too early to make any calls on his status, though Wayne did miss practice today.
Based on what Pagano said, it sounds like Wayne will have to practice tomorrow and on Saturday (not just on Saturday) in order to play, so his status is worth monitoring closely. The Colts have every reason to be cautious with the veteran possession receiver, especially since Moncrief, who will surely get more targets going forward, makes it easier for them to do that.
