Tony Romo listed questionable

Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo is truly a game-time decision for this week’s marquee matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, as both teams have been among the best in the NFL through the first eight weeks. After taking a nasty shot to the back in the Cowboys Monday Night Football overtime loss to the Washington Redskins, Romo has not practiced at all this week, and the Cowboys need to be concerned about his chances of aggravating the injury; Romo’s back is clearly a long-term issue and will likely be something that needs to be managed for the rest of his career.

  • According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys have officially listed Romo as questionable on the injury report, and this comes as a surprise to nobody. He’s a full-blown toss-up this week, and the Cowboys probably won’t know his status until pre-game warm-ups before the start of their Week 9 kick-off, because they will have to monitor his ability to make all the throws closely.

If Romo cannot play this week, then the Cowboys will turn to former first-round pick Brandon Weeden, who had an exceptional preseason and played reasonably well against the Redskins. The Cowboys need to be incredibly careful here, because even though beating the Cardinals would be awesome, it’s far more important to have him ready later on in the year.
