Through eight weeks, the New York Jets have undoubtably been one of the worst, if not the worst, teams in the National Football League. The team’s “major” offseason acquisitions haven’t panned out, except for maybe Eric Decker. Running back Chris Johnson looks lost when trying to hit a hole, which is why he rarely sees the field at this point. At 1-7, the Jets have reached the point of no return, and are essentially eliminated from playoff contention.

It will be intriguing to see Michael Vick take on former coach Andy Reid, but honestly that’s the only major storyline heading into Sunday. New York is a clear underdog, as they should be, and unless Alex Smith plans on handing the Jets the game, I don’t see how Rex Ryan’s team can keep it within single digits. Obviously playing for pride is a factor here for Gang Green, but this team hasn’t done anything this season that has led me to believe that they can win in an environment as hostile as Arrowhead Stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs are finding their stride midway through the season. Many people wrote Reid’s team off prior to the start of the 2014 campaign, particularly because of injuries and the lack of big names on offense, but the Chiefs have proven to be resilient. At 4-3, Kansas City is only one game out of a wild card spot. This is a team that has banded together recently, despite placing key players Derrick Johnson and Mike Devito on injured reserve. A win against the Jets would go a long way in their quest to return to the playoffs for a second straight season.

Prediction:

Realistically, everything is stacked against the New York Jets in this game. Michael Vick’s mobility and the fact that he had a full week of first-team reps means something, but I still don’t see that being a huge factor. The Jets have failed to move the ball all season, especially through the air, and Kansas City are ranked number 1 against opposing passing attacks. A heavy dose of Chris Ivory can keep the Chiefs off of the field for awhile, but ultimately Arrowhead’s team are the better of the two. It comes down to which team will make more mistakes, and when do the Jets ever force more turnovers than they concede themselves?
