Richard Sherman calls Odell Beckham Jr. ‘the real deal’

Following a 38-17 victory loss to the Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants’ rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. sought out Seattle Seahawks’ All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman. Sherman saw a lot of Beckham on Sunday, and the two were entrenched in a battle all game.

The often loquacious Sherman only had positive things to say about Beckham. “You’re the real deal. Keep working,” Sherman said, according to Beckham. In the post-game press conference Sherman continued to show his respect for Beckham. “Beckham is a great player,” Sherman said. “They have to depend on him. They have to take risks. He was able to get one earlier, which was a great play by him.”

More from New York Giants

The play Sherman was referring to was a 44-yard reception by Beckham. Beckham put a nice double move on Sherman and beat him deep in man coverage, something that does not happen too frequently.

New York does have to depend on Beckham, as he’s proven he is the only player on the offense that can consistently make plays. It’s good to see that Eli Manning and the Giants have trust in him, although that trust eventually led to an Earl Thomas interception.

Beckham would finish the game with seven receptions for 108 yards, which marked his second consecutive 100-yard outing. The rookie out of LSU continues to establish himself as the best player on the Giants’ offense not named Eli Manning. Although the season appears to be over for New York, at least Giants’ fans can take solace in knowing they have a star in the making at wide receiver, and Beckham can take solace in knowing he can compete with the arguably the league’s best corner.

The rest of the season will serve as games for Beckham to continue to develop and improve. Beckham proved he not only has talent, but he’s also not afraid to play against and compete with the best.

Garnering that kind of respect from Sherman is no easy task, just ask Michael “Sorry Wide Receiver” Crabtree.
