Seattle Seahawks Brandon Mebane out for the season

Seattle Seahawks star defensive tackle Brandon Mebane is a legitimate star player in this league, but he’s been so underrated for so long that only the most hardcore of fans understand how much of an impact he makes on the Seahawks defense. There are few players who have been more consistent over the year than Mebane, whose quiet dominance as made him a fixture at the heart of the Seahawks defensive line. FOX Sports’s Mike Garafolo already reported that the San Francisco 49ers will likely use the fixture at the heart of their defense- star LB Patrick Willis, who has certainly received his fair share of recognition for his elite player over the years- for the rest of the season after he has already missed a month with a much-worse-than-expected toe injury.

Now, Garafolo is reporting a bombshell to the Seahawks, as a source tells FOX Sports 1 that Mebane will be out for the rest of the season with a torn hamstring. It’s a massive blow to the Seahawks defense, and their most impressive unit on D has been their defensive line. Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril have been excellent, as usual, and Mebane has continued his solid form from last season, showing up big-time against the New York Giants in Week 10. He was forced to leave the game with a hamstring injury in the second quarter, and the injury immediately looked serious.

Yesterday, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll stated that Mebane’s injury is “legit” and added that the DT would miss “some time”, but we never expected it to end up being a season-ending issue. The Seahawks have more than enough talent at DT and elsewhere to make do, but it’s still a huge blow up front.
