Arian Foster, Reggie Bush Injury Updates

Houston Texans star running back Arian Foster suffered a groin injury before the bye week in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he tried as hard as he could to return in time to play in today’s game against the Cleveland Browns, who have had plenty of rest after blowing out the rival Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10 on Thursday Night Football. Foster was ruled out yesterday, but that didn’t come as a surprise since he wasn’t expected to play despite the fact that many were holding out hope for him.

More from Detroit Lions

Texans head coach Bill O’Brien told ESPN’s Bob Holtzman that Foster’s groin injury is a “two-week thing”, so he expects him to be able to play in another big AFC North showdown next week against the Cincinnati Bengals. That’s re-assuring to hear, but, of course, we’re always worried that Foster will suffer another nagging injury. The key is avoiding aggravation, but that shouldn’t be an issue since the Texans clearly aren’t trying to rush him back.

Ryan Mallett will make his first career start against a tough defense without the benefit of this season’s second-best rusher (only DeMarco Murray is topping him this year), but he will still have a talented running back supporting him in rookie Alfred Blue, who has exceeded expectations this season.

Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush never practiced this past week, and absolutely nobody has expected him to play today against the Arizona Cardinals. Earlier today, it was reported that Bush would miss today’s game, and now Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper reports that Bush will not play. We’re going to see a whole lot of the talented Theo Riddick today, or at least I hope we do, since he could have a nice day against the Cardinals linebackers.
