Jordan Cameron Injury: Browns hope TE plays next week

Cleveland Browns star tight end Jordan Cameron has been out since Week 8 after suffering a concussion on a brutal hit from Oakland Raiders safety Brandian Ross, and the injury was initially supposed to hold him out for two weeks. However, he is missing a third game today after being ruled out on Friday, and Browns head coach Mike Pettine hinted that Cameron could even miss the rest of the season. It’s his third concussion in two years, and this one is definitely a nasty one that could even keep him out of next week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, via Rotoworld, that the Browns are “hopeful” that Cameron can suit up against the Falcons, but he adds that it’s all “unpredictable” at this point. Concussions are always a guessing game, since we have no idea if a player will be able to pass through the concussion protocol quickly or if they will exhibit new symptoms after being cleared (I believe this happened to Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed last season, and Reed ended up missing the final few weeks of his promising rookie campaign).

Cameron was supposed to be the focal point of the Browns passing attack and put up monster numbers with Brian Hoyer throwing it to him, but injuries have derailed the 2013 breakout star’s 2014 follow-up. New slot guy Andrew Hawkins has assumed the role of the Browns top receiver, but you can only imagine how good the Browns would look with a healthy Cameron once Josh Gordon is back in the fold. We’ll see if Cameron can play next week, but his status is a toss-up until further notice.
