Carson Palmer will undergo surgery tomorrow

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was placed on the injured reserve last week after tearing his ACL in a win over the rival St. Louis Rams, and it was such a devastating injury for both him and the team, especially after he just signed a lucrative- and criticized- extension after an impressive first half of the season. Palmer helped lead the Cardinals to the league’s best record, but they didn’t seem to miss a beat yesterday in a 14-6 win over the tough Detroit Lions, as they completely smothered star wideouts Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.

According to FOX Sports 910’s Mike Jurecki, Palmer will undergo surgery on his torn ACL tomorrow in Phoenix, as Jurecki reports that the swelling in the quarterback’s knee has gone down. I can’t remember the last time a player had an unsuccessful surgery, so we can only hope that Palmer isn’t an exception. We wish him the best in his recovery, and I hope he can get back at full strength. He’s 34 so there’s some worry here, but I believe in him. I still can’t believe he tore his ACL, though, and his reaction (he reportedly cried) was pretty tough to read about.

Palmer completed 62.9% of his passes in 2014 with 11 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions, and his ability to avoid making mistakes in a vertical offense is something the Cardinals will miss with the gun-slinging Drew Stanton, who threw two picks yesterday, at the helm.
