Roddy White Injury: Falcons WR expected to play

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White is at risk of missing this week’s huge title with Patrick Peterson, Antonio Cromartie, and the Arizona Cardinals “No Fly Zone”, which famously claimed Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate as two of its high-profile victims a couple of weeks ago. Julio Jones and White form one of the NFL’s best wide receiver duos, and they need that duo to be intact if they want to have a legit shot at upsetting the Cardinals and adding a big win to their resume in the hunt for the NFC South crown, which is still wide open for one underwhelming team to seize.

White has missed practice for two straight days now with an ankle injury, and both the nature and severity of the injury are unclear. However, we were finally able to receive a some sort of an official update, and it’s a very positive one. According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Vaughn McClure, Falcons head coach Mike Smith expects White to practice tomorrow and play against the Cardinals on Sunday, so it sounds like this ankle injury isn’t anything to worry about.

Despite this optimism from Smith, it’s still important to check up on White tomorrow, especially if you are thinking about trotting him out for your fantasy team (I wouldn’t recommend doing that against the Cardinals). If White is able to practice and doesn’t suffer any practices, then he’s playing. If he doesn’t practice, then there’s just about no chance he plays, because that means he is further away from being healthy than Smith expected. At this point, he should be expected to play, but, again, it’s all about being cautiously optimistic.
