5 Reasons Why The AFC North Is The Best Division In The NFL And It’s Not Even Close

Many NFL fans like to claim that their division is the most competitive division in the league. In 2014 only one division can make this claim and it can do so by a wide margin. That division is the AFC North.

It has four teams competing for the division crown, no other division can come close to that depth of quality teams. As the playoffs loom it will only get more exciting to watch unfold.

If you don’t think it is true, here are a few reasons that prove that the AFC North is the best division in the league. Fans of the Bengals, Browns, Ravens and Steelers enjoy this little write-up about your fine division.

1. All Four Teams Can Win The Division

Obviously no other division can claim this. It’s quite insane that every team in the division has seven wins and could win the division. That fact not only portrays a level of depth in the division, it demonstrates that there are no easy weeks in the AFC North.

Every division matchup is of the utmost importance, unlike in other divisions where there are terrible teams and stark disparities in records.

2. Every Other Division Has At Least One Team With Four Wins Or Less

All NFL divisions have at least one ‘terrible’ team with only four wins. Five divisions have at least one team with even less than four wins. The NFC South features four teams with four wins or less (yikes).

The rest of the NFL divisions are dramatically less balanced than the AFC South and that means that all other divisions are less competitive overall.

3. Somehow Every Team Is Riding A Winning Streak (Or At Least Coming Off A Win)

None of the AFC North’s four teams are coming off a loss. This division is not only stacked, but its members are all playing good football at the moment.

The Bengals and Ravens are riding two-game winning streaks and the Steelers and Browns both won their last game. Six divisions in the league have at least two teams lose their last game. Four divisions had at least three teams lose their last game.

That’s about all you need to know about how good this division really is and is currently playing.

4. It’s The Only Division With All Four Teams Posting Positive Net Points

All divisions in the NFL, except for the AFC North, have at least one team that has given up more points than it has scored this year. Five divisions have at least two teams that have put up negative net points this season.

The fact that all of this division’s teams have positive net points further illustrates the dominance and depth of the AFC North. All four are playing both quality offense and defense… now that’s damn impressive.

5. All Four Teams Have Their Franchise Quarterbacks In Place

It is extremely rare for an entire division to have all four teams content with their quarterbacks of the foreseeable future (excluding first and second year quarterbacks that may or may not pan out).

That is exactly what the AFC North has going for itself. The Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger and the Ravens’ Joe Flacco have both seen great success in the league as Super Bowl Champions. The Bengals’ Andy Dalton and Browns’ Brian Hoyer are no slouches either.

In the NFL it’s all about the quarterback position and this division has four starters that know how to go out and win games.

There you have it, the NFL’s best division from top to bottom is the AFC North and it really is not even close.
