Geno Smith should get chance as Jets starter next season

Could Geno Smith lead the New York Jets as their starting quarterback again next season? He has been awful this season. He has only won once this season, but what does he have to work with on offense? The team was looking to add more weapons for him in the offseason, but they didn’t bring in much. The team added Eric Decker to the roster and added Chris Johnson to the team, but the team still looks lost in this offensive system. Rex Ryan has no idea how to develop a quarterback. How will the new head coach deal with developing talent at the position?

Who will be brought in to run the show and will they be able to groom the youngster into the Pro Bowl quarterback that he believes that he has shown flashes of.

"“I’ve shown flashes of being a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback, but what we’re looking for here is consistency. The best teams have consistent quarterback play and I realize that and that’s truly what I want to show to the fans and everyone outside the building.”"

I mean…. David Garrard was a Pro Bowler at one point. Everyone goes to the Pro Bowl these days.

The talk about Pro Bowl flashes is over the top, but he has shown the ability to be a solid quarterback in this league. He does need the help around him. He does need an offensive mind that can help develop his skills.

Next season, the Jets should give him another shot at taking the starting job. They have been adding pieces on offense to help. They added talent like Eric Decker and Percy Harvin onto the roster. The running game has Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson to work with. There is talent and speed on this team to work with, he just needs to get system on offense in place to use the talent that is on this roster. Someone needs to help Geno develop.

Just in case Geno does suck again… have a good backup plan.
