San Diego Chargers Top Rookie Wide Receiver Prospects

As stated earlier this week in my Dontrelle Inman article, the San Diego Chargers could be losing Eddie Royal to free agency this March. And while I would like to believe that Keenan Allen, Malcom Floyd and Dontrelle Inman are going to be enough, the unfortunate reality is that they are not enough. As well, I understand that tight ends Antonio Gates and Ladarius Green can add some yardage, but the Bolts are going to need to get another receiver regardless.

The thing about free agency is that even though there are some great players on the board, most of them will go for big money, money that the Bolts can’t afford to spend on a flashy receiver. I believe the draft is somewhere where the Chargers could strike a deal. They need the cap space for their offensive line that underperformed last season.

With that stated, some rookie front runners have made their presences known through the combine. I doubt the Chargers are going to draft in the beginning three rounds considering their needs on the defensive/offensive lines, and at the running back, corner back and strong safety positions.

I do think though that we could perhaps see a fourth or fifth-round selection from the Chargers. With that said, the majority of the NCAA’s top receivers are likely to be off the board within the first three rounds. This means that the Chargers are going to have to look for some underrated and perhaps unknown receiving prospects.

This is a list of some rookie receivers that have shown their value in college and the combine and would make a good fit on the Charger’s roster. Because we’re looking for lower-end, day two prospects, there may be some dark horses on this list. But, with some statistical analyses and physical evaluations, you can decide for yourself who is the best fit.
