Tennessee Titans should take chance on Brandon Marshall

What does a winning mentality encompass? Taking risks with players that have the potential to really step right in and start making a difference the moment they set foot on the field. Regardless of personal issues, sometimes it’s worth giving it a shot to see how it develops. According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, the Chicago Bears are shopping around wide receiver Brandon Marshall via trade. This is the perfect time for the Tennessee Titans to become potential suitors and see what the asking price is to acquire a solid target into their offense.

Last season, the Titans ranked 22nd overall in the NFL with passing yards at 213.3 per game. Adding someone with the talent of Marshall would only elevate the game of everyone around him. Guys like Delanie Walker, Kendall Wright and even Nate Washington would step up knowing they have someone like Marshall alongside them.

Coming off a 2-14 season isn’t easy and one way to reassure a dedicated fan base that the team is headed in the right direction is to be aggressive and pursue top talent. Sometimes you have to take risks, even on a player like Marshall who comes with a rep of being an issue in the locker room which shouldn’t be that big of a problem.

I’ve always believed that players that tend to be a bit overemotional just need the right coaching and guidance to always keep their head up high. Marshall is worth taking a chance on since he has the potential to have an over 1,000 yards season with double-digit touchdowns with the right system in place.

If Marshall could be acquired via trade for a high draft pick and/or players, I feel the Titans should make it happen since it’s been a long time that they were able to have a true No. 1 receiving threat. The kind of athlete that intimidates defenses and has the ability to make big plays all the way to the end zone.

Of course on the flip side, the Titans are probably wondering why the Bears are all of a sudden willing to part ways with one of their top offensive players. Marshall is the kind of athlete that requires a little different technique in coaching and getting the most out of him without him going on rants or tirades. It’s not to say that he’s a locker room cancer since he’s far from it, but he just has his tendencies to turn little things into big things quickly.

He’s matured a lot over the past few years but I believe the real reason the Bears are shopping him around is because of the new regime in place. With a new head coach in John Fox and new general manager in Ryan Pace, it’s clear they want to head in a different direction, especially with their offense.

The Bears want to really shake things up offensively, especially with how poorly quarterback Jay Cutler has been these past few years. It only makes sense that if they part with Marshall now, the same fate could also be coming for Cutler.

They made many memories together but it looks like Marshall will end up on another team come 2015. That’s why he’s expendable at the moment since the Bears need to head in a different direction without Marshall in mind.

I’ve always believed you can’t be successful unless you take risks. For the Titans to finally add a much-needed jolt to their offense, they should acquire Marshall and build around him for at least the next few years. He still has plenty left to contribute and with the development of quarterback Zach Mettenberger, perhaps Marshall could give him the reliable veteran target he truly needs to grow into their next franchise quarterback.
