New York Giants: 2015 Will Be the Giants Offense’s Year

Despite finishing the season with a 6-10 record and having an injury-riddled offensive line, the New York Giants’ offense performed quite well overall last season. Their offense ranked 10th in the league in total offense and 7th in passing offense. Furthermore, franchise quarterback Eli Manning threw for 4,410 yards, 30 touchdowns  and accomplished a career-best 63.1% completion rate in 2014.

It took a while for things to click under Ben McAdoo’s West Coast offense but when they did, the Giants’ offense performed well. Expect the Giants to carry that momentum this coming season. The New York Giants’ offense is loaded and will be a major threat to their opponents in 2015. This may very well turn out to be the best offense that Eli Manning’s had during his time on the Giants.

Manning will have Odell Beckham, Jr., a healthy Victor Cruz, and Rueben Randle to throw to this season.  Beckham Jr. and Cruz are major threats on their own. Put them together, and watch the offense explode.

However, I predict that Randle will also shine this year. It’s a make-or-break year for him. He’s been inconsistent and has appeared to give up on routes. Yet, he has the talent to succeed and with more focus and preparation, he will join Beckham, Jr. and Cruz to make a three-headed monster envious to every other team.

In addition to having three talented receivers, Eli Manning will also have a nice, versatile running back system comprised of Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams, and Super Bowl Champion Shane Vereen.

Last season, the New York Giants running backs failed to hit their stride and their run game suffered from Rashad Jennings’ injury. The unit finished 23rd in the league. However, 2015 looks promising for the Giants with a healthy Rashad Jennings returning and  the signing of Shane Vereen.

Shane Vereen completes the running back core. With this signing, the Giants not only added depth in the backfield but filled a big void in their offense. A crucial component of the West Coast offense that McAdoo runs is a running back who can catch the ball. Vereen would complement Jennings in the backfield, giving Manning two options in short-range pass-catching situations, and Williams would be the goal-line power back.

Now, the Giants’ offensive line and tight-end units need help. They’re not as solid as the other units in their offense. However, both units do have play-makers in them right now and with the upcoming draft, the Giants have the opportunity to solidify both units and complete their offense.

On their offensive line, the New York Giants have Justin Pugh and Weston Richburg who are two young versatile players. Additionally, the Giants have veteran linemen Geoff Schwartz, John Jerry, and former Cincinnati Bengals tackle Marshall Newhouse. If they picked up another lineman during the draft, they’d add depth to a unit that was injury-riddled last season, keep Eli upright, and improve the team’s running game.

The Giants will need to address their need at tight end during the draft but re-signing Larry Donnell and Daniel Fells were good moves. Donnell is a playmaker and had a few of breakout games. Unfortunately, he dealt with fumbling issues at key points in the games and didn’t block well. Luckily, Fells is a good blocker, making him a good target for Manning, especially during play action plays.

The New York Giants have the weapons of mass destruction on their offense. Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning has a trio of talented receivers. Additionally, he has a trio of running backs, two of which can catch the ball, adding depth in the backfield. 2015 will be the Giants offense’s year and quite possibly the year Eli reaches a 70% completion rate.
