The Oakland Raiders announced today that they have resigned several of their restricted free agents. The players who signed include WRs Rod Streater and Andre Holmes, Safeties Larry Asante and Brandian Ross, and P Marquette King. While we do not devalue the contribution of punters in football, and King is among the best in the league, the two players the Raiders absolutely had to sign are Streater and Holmes.

Last season Derek Carr was forced to play with James Jones, Andre Holmes, and a number of players brought in off the street. Denarius Moore’s production fell off dramatically and he was no longer a reliable target. The Raiders experimented with different players off waivers like Kenbrell Thompkins and Vincent Brown but neither were able to make an impact. The Raiders will still likely take a receiver early but the group is strengthened with the return of Streater and Holmes.
