The Baltimore Ravens recently came to terms with cornerback Kyle Arrington to bring his talents over to a defensive secondary that is in need of quality depth. After being recently cut by the New England Patriots, it wasn’t long until someone swooped in and signed him since he has a tremendous amount of experience at the position. After seven seasons in the NFL, Arrington will find his third new home with a Ravens team that so far, has made all the right decisions this offseason.

At 5’10” and 190 pounds, Arrington will bring a great veteran presence to a defensive secondary that was lacking a leader that overachieved when it came down to execution and consistency. In his career so far, Arrington contributed 283 tackles, 3.0 sacks, nine interceptions and five forced fumbles. Needless to say, he’s a tackling machine that still has what it takes to succeed at a high level.

The Ravens signed him to a three-year deal as per Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun that should see him be an anchor on their defensive secondary. He will battle it out this upcoming summer during training camps for the third cornerback position at the slot. No financials have been released at the time of this writing on his new contract.

A big reason why the Ravens wanted to add Arrington is due to their history of having members of their defensive secondary fall to injury. Depth is incredibly important especially at cornerback since one never knows when injury can happen or if a player declines in coverage.

Looking at the Raven’s depth chart, Arrington should fit in nicely and be utilized in specific defensive formations to utilize his speed and ability to get to the ball-carrier. He knows how to contain even the best wide receivers coming his way with ease and precision.

Considering all the young talent that is being infused on the Ravens’ defense, Arrington couldn’t have found a better situation to be in for his career. The Patriots didn’t use him as effectively as they could have but the Ravens are ready to deploy him in glorious fashion to capitalize on the skill-set he brings to the table.

In addition to his solid zone coverage skills, one can definitely see him also contribute on the Ravens’ special teams as a gunner or even as the vocal leader of the unit.

It’s incredibly important that the Ravens bolster this area of the team with his talents since it can yield incredible results when it comes to field positioning and setting things up nicely throughout the course of a game.

Arrington should definitely be ready to contribute immediately and rally the troops to continue making the Ravens a competitive team. There is no telling how far they can go this upcoming season if everyone stays healthy and everything falls into place accordingly.

With Arrington’s abilities now in the mix, the Ravens should have quite the defensive secondary filled with youth and experience ready to stop even the best offensive teams dead in their tracks come next season.
