It is being reported that the Dallas Cowboys and their top cornerback, Orlando Scandrick, have agreed to a new deal Friday morning.

ESPN.com NFL Insider Adam Schefter tweeted Friday morning the two parties have agreed to a new contract:

Before the reported deal Scandrick changed his mind about not participating on OTA’s this spring for the Cowboys, opting to participate in the offseason workouts with his team.

Scandrick was drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Boise State. The 5-10, 195-pound cornerback will be entering his eighth NFL season. For his career, he’s collected 322 combined tackles (291 solo) with 9.5 sacks and seven interceptions. He also has one career touchdown in 2010.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the deal is for one year, worth $9.5 million:

In ’13 with the Cowboys, Scandrick had 59 solo tackles (64 combined) with two sacks and the aforementioned two interceptions.

Scandrick has played in a total of 102 regular season games with the Cowboys, including the full 16-game season four times. Last season he played in 14 games.

This past season the top cornerback on the Cowboys’ roster totaled 55 tackles (50 solo) with one sack and two interceptions, tying the career-high he set in 2013.

This deal is smart for the Cowboys for the reason it gives them a continued veteran presence on the roster, and a player who does his job well for a defense that’s in the middle of basically a complete rebuild the past couple offseasons.

Last season the Cowboys won the NFC East championship with a 12-4 overall regular season record, and advanced to the Division Round of the playoffs. This extension should help them continue to compete in a tough NFC East division.
