The Buffalo Bills have one of the best groups of cornerbacks in the NFL, and they made it even better by drafting Florida State’s Ronald Darby in the second round to add to a unit that already included starters Stephon Gilmore, Corey Graham, and Leodis McKelvin. However, the Bills situation at safety isn’t quite as set, though they do have some solid talent and depth to offset the fact that they don’t have a sure-fire star back there.

Last season, the Bills boasted one of the league’s pass defenses thanks to their incredible pass rush and talented secondary, as opponents could only muster 18.1 points per game (fourth-best scoring defense) against them. Additionally, the Bills had more picks than touchdowns allowed, surrendering less passing touchdowns than anyone else to go with the second-lowest net yards per pass attempt (5.4) given up, per Pro-Football Reference. The Bills just didn’t give up an inch in pass defense, and they clearly didn’t miss Jairus Byrd.

As it stands right now, the Bills starting safeties are Aaron Williams and Duke Williams now that the underrated Da’Norris Searcy has joined the Tennessee Titans. It will be interesting to see how much they miss Searcy’s solid, well-rounded play at the back, because he was noticeably the team’s best safety last year.
