New York Giants: Jason Pierre-Paul making wrong moves

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants sure has a way of jeopardizing his future with the franchise he helped put on the map. Needless to say, Pierre-Paul made a pretty dumb mistake back on Fourth of July weekend that nearly cost him his right hand. Many would believe a grown adult that is also a starting high-profile player on a team in the NFL would have shown better judgement to even be involved in such an incident, but now, things are just getting even worse between Pierre-Paul and the Giants.

Pierre-Paul has yet to even speak to the higher-ups of Giants about his current situation. It’s strange since one would at least give a heads up to a team that considered him a cornerstone on their defense. In an article written by Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, here is what head coach Tom Coughlin said about Pierre-Paul not even responding to a text message he sent the day after the incident occurred:

"“I want to be there for him. But he’s decided that he doesn’t want our help. He thinks that something will come of it. But, all I care about, all any of us care about, the whole organization, is the well-being of the kid.”"

It’s truly hard to believe that it’s been almost a month since the incident and not even his own head coach knows the true extent of his injury. For all everyone knows, Pierre-Paul could have played some of his last football with the Giants since nobody truly knows if he’ll ever be the same player again.

Pierre-Paul is making all the wrong moves since he should be more professional about this entire ordeal. It could be he’s truly embarrassed about the whole situation and doesn’t really want to talk about it but at the end of the day, it’s his responsibility as an athlete and member of the team to inform them about where he’s at in the heat of it all. He’s only hurting himself in the end.

Not only has he had no contact with the team at the time of his writing, he also turned down a visit from team officials that simply went to check up on him when he was in the hospital at Miami after the incident. Shocking of all besides that is he’s spoken to the media claiming that he’s “fine” and will be able to resume football activities sooner than most think.

It’s hard to truly believe that when he won’t even allow team officials or doctors the ability to even see his hand to determine the severity of his injury. Considering that he hasn’t even signed his franchise tender of $14.8 million because he wants to wait until he’s ready to hit the field is also alarming.

It might come to a shock eventually but the Giants are the kind of organization that won’t hesitate to play hardball too. Since he shunned team officials and refuses to even speak to his own head coach about the injury or his well-being, it will eventually make the Giants ponder if he’s even worth keeping around anymore.

Overall, he’s one day going to regret staying away from those most important within the organization that could be helping him instead of being stuck in the dark about it all. It’s not hard to respond to texts or phone calls since many just want to make sure he’s okay but at this rate, he might soon find himself looking for another team to play for.
