When the Philadelphia Eagles surprisingly found a trade partner for the noodle-armed Matt Barkley, it looked like Tim Tebow’s spot with the roster was safe. After all, people like me believed that he would likely make the 53-man roster, and he went 11-17 for 189 yards and two touchdowns with one pick in an impressive preseason finale against the New York Jets.

Unfortunately for Tebow, that game and his rushing ability weren’t enough to seal a roster spot as the team’s third quarterback, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Chip Kelly has decided to give up on his QB/two-point conversion project for the time being. Now, another injury to Sam Bradford could cause Chip to pick up the phone and shoot an offer in Tebow’s direction, but, for now, it looks like it’s back to being an analyst for Tebow.

Here are five reasons why this release makes more sense than you might think.
