The NFL trade deadline generally doesn’t create much buzz, and the amount of blockbuster trades made in his league pales in comparison to what transpires in other leagues, specifically the MLB and NBA. Even so, NFL trade rumors still start swirling around during this time of year, and we have seen big names like Percy Harvin and Aqib Talib move teams in the past to varying degrees of success. Detroit Lions superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson is just the latest name to be mentioned in rumblings, and this has caused quite a stir.

It all started when ESPN’s Greg Garber creatively suggested that the 7-0 New England Patriots should send a second-round pick to Martin Mayhew and the Lions for Megatron, who is coming off of six straight games with at least five receptions and over 50 receiving yards.

Johnson is still one of the NFL’s best five receivers, but he’s on the other side of 30, is expensive, and is on a team that has won just one game this season. Trading him would figure to benefit the Lions in the long run, and Garber isn’t the only one making the case for a Megatron trade.

For as much fun as it is to speculate, here are five reasons why this deal isn’t going to happen, even if you could argue that it would help the Lions in the long run. The arguments made by the likes of Garber are logical- and I agree with most of them- but it’s worth keeping these following points in mind as the rumors and talk swirl.
