One of the biggest concerns for the Green Bay Packers this offseason is how will Eddie Lacy handle the request to lose weight?

It was a good season in 2015 for the Green Bay Packers, as they were once again able to make the playoffs, this time as a Wild Card. The Packers would dispose of the Washington Redskins in the Wild Card Round but lost a thrilling game to the Arizona Cardinals the following week.

While it is a good accomplishment to make the playoffs, the Packers are one of the teams that expect to be contending for the Super Bowl. With one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Aaron Rodgers under center, the Packers’ offense will always be good. Even a great quarterback like Rodgers does need help, however, and that was something he didn’t get much of last season.

The injury to Jordy Nelson prior to the start of the season would end up being a huge blow for the Packers after a few weeks of getting by without him. Against some of the better defenses in the league, the Packers’ offense looked awful, as Rodgers had some of his worst games of his career in 2015.

With Nelson out, the Packers could have used some of their wide receivers to step up, but they also could have used their running back, Eddie Lacy, not to have the worst season of his career. In 2015, Lacy had the worst season of his career, as he totaled 758 rushing yards after two straight seasons of totaling over 1,000 rushing yards. This offseason, the goal for Lacy has been to drop weight, and so far that is going well.

“So far, so good,” McCarthy said to Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I don’t know [how much work Lacy has left to do]. Eddie will be fine. I believe he’ll hit the target that we’re looking for when the lights come on.”

With a need to get into better shape, Lacy has been working with the creator of the famous workout program P90x. Tony Horton has personally been helping Lacy get back into shape, and their relationship has turned out to be a good one.

“But I knew I could help him, and I knew what he was struggling from, and I think we both agreed in our meeting that he needed sort of a new perspective and a new approach,” Horton said to Cohen. “And we got along really great. We just met each other up in San Francisco the week before the Super Bowl. And we said hey, let’s give this thing a try. Come hangout with me in Jackson Hole and then after that stint is done we’ll come back to LA and continue it there. We just got along, you know what I mean? We laughed a lot and we worked hard and we ate clean food and just took care of business, you know?”

Horton says that Lacy has already lost 15-20lbs this offseason, which is a great sign for the Packers. Having a balanced offensive attack has led to great things in Green Bay, as Rodgers is extremely effective using the play-action. If Lacy has a bounce back year, expect Horton to be getting calls from other players in need of some weight loss help.
