Washington Redskins wide receiver Jamison Crowder was quiet in Week 4, but came back loudly in Week 5 with a monster punt return touchdown

The Baltimore Ravens struck first with a touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to Crockett Gillmore, but it didn’t take long for the Washington Redskins to fire back.

Jamison Crowder took a punt return and immediately accelerated with clear field ahead of him. The Ravens caught up, but they couldn’t bring him down. After squirming free, Crowder was off to the races and the end result was a game-tying 85-yard punt return touchdown for the second-year standout out of Duke.

The Redskins needed that touchdown, because they hadn’t been given many plays on offense to that point. Matt Jones had just one rushing attempt and Kirk Cousins had attempted just three passes. None of those targets went to Crowder. But since he’s scored touchdowns by making something out of nothing twice this season, that should change in the second quarter and beyond.

After Dustin Hopkins missed the extra point under exceptionally windy conditions in Baltimore, the one-loss Ravens held a 7-6 lead over the Redskins. Flacco looked sharp with Terrance West reeling off a big run to put up 60 rushing yards, so Washington’s defense will need to tighten up. That would help Cousins and the Redskins offense see the field more often.

Through the first four weeks, Crowder has been the Redskins No. 1 wide receiver in one respect, leading all receiverss on the team with 28 targets. DeSean Jackson has more receiving yards overall, but Crowder has played a huge role, making Pierre Garcon a mere afterthought. That said, it is worth noting, in fairness to Garcon, that his catch rate has been higher than Crowder’s to this point.
