The Washington Redskins won their fourth-straight game after they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6.

From the very first snap, it seemed that the Washington Redskins were one step ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

The Eagles entered Week 6 without their starting right tackle, Lane Johnson. He is serving a 10-game suspension for PEDs, so that threw rookie fifth round pick Halapoulivaati Vaitai into the fire. It was certainly fire because the Redskins pass-rusher Ryan Kerrigan gave him a ‘welcome to the NFL, rookie’ moment on his first snap. Kerrigan blew by Vaitai and sacked rookie sensation Carson Wentz. Kerrigan dominated Vaitai the rest of the day.

The story of the game for the Eagles were their penalties and poor pass protection. When the final horn sounded, Philly was penalized 13 times for 114 yards. Obviously unacceptable if you want to win a football game. But their pass protection was even worse. Wentz was sacked five times and hit 11 other times on his 27 drop backs.

All of the credit goes to the Redskins defense, though. They played lights out and did not allow a touchdown (even though Eagles tight end Zach Ertz dropped an easy one late in the fourth quarter). The Redskins defense only surrendered 234 yards on the day and held Wentz to 179 yards passing.

Their offense played well early, scoring two touchdowns behind the arm of their quarterback Kirk Cousins. However, Cousins did throw a terrible interception for a touchdown and the Redskins special teams gave up a kick return touchdown too. If you take away those two breakdowns, the Redskins put a beating on the Eagles.

Three Stars

Ryan Kerrigan, Washington Redskins — Kerrigan took the rookie (Vaitai) back to school on Sunday. He ended the day with two and half sacks, two tackles for a loss, and four quarterback hits.

Washington Redskins Offensive Line — Cousins was sacked zero times for zero yards and the Redskins ran the ball 33 times for 230 yards and a touchdown. They played fantastic football on Sunday.

Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins — Outside of the horrendous pick six, Cousins played well. He threw for two early scores and 263 yards.
