The Philadelphia Eagles defense and special teams have come to play in Week 6, each unit coming up with a huge touchdown

It wasn’t been the best start for Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles offense in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. For starters, their right tackle Lane Johnson is officially serving his suspension. That meant that their rookie tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai would start his first NFL game.

It was a train wreck in the first half. He looked like he forgot what pass protection was, giving up three first half sacks. Washington Redskins defensive end Ryan Kerrigan crushed him and notched two and a half sacks in the first half alone. With the bad pass protection, the Eagles offense hasn’t been able to do anything. They were 1-of-5 on third down and only had 42 yards of total offense in the first half.

However, after Vernon Davis scored a touchdown for the Redskins, he was flagged for excessive celebration. That penalty gave the Eagles the opportunity to return the kickoff and they made Washington pay.

Rookie fifth round pick Wendell Smallwood took the kickoff and looked like he was shot out of a cannon on his way to an 86-yard touchdown.

The play gave the Eagles some momentum and they kept it going when they were on defense. The Redskins and quarterback Kirk Cousins were driving down the field and looked like they were going to score for a third time on the day. Cousins threw for his third touchdown of the day—but it was to Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins on a pick-six.

Cousins had no business making that throw, but he did and Jenkins made him pay. That brought the score to 14-14 and has given the Eagles life. Even though the Eagles offense has been terrible, their defense and special teams has been ballin’ and saving the day.
